# Add/Edit Material Data, Properties, Diagrams and Documents

This section provides instructions for adding and editing material information (properties, testing parameters, diagrams, documents, etc.). To get started, select the material you wish to edit from the [Materials menu](/total-materia-integrator/creator/materials-management.md) of Creator section.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Before editing any material data, the material data system **must be** primary configured in the [Data Maintenance section](/total-materia-integrator/creator/data-maintenance.md). This ensures the availability of material groups, property groups, properties, units, parameters, references and more.
{% endhint %}

## Add/Edit General Material Information

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Select Material

Select desired material from the search result list by using available searching options ("Material Designation", "Standard", "Material Group", "Release Status", "Department"). If the desired material isn't available in the search results, be sure to create the material using "[CREATE NEW MATERIAL](/total-materia-integrator/creator/materials-management/create-materials.md)" button.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### **Click the "Edit" button**

Once the desired material is selected/created, general material information can be easily added using the "EDIT" button located to the right to Material designation.

### Add/Edit General Material Information

Clicking the "EDIT" button (step 2) will open a new pop-up window, with one default (Basic Information) and two optional (Additional Information and Departments) sections displayed on the right side of the window:

**Basic Information**: Basic material information (Material designation, Alternative designation, Standard and Material group).

**Aditional Information**: Additional configurable material information (E.g. Material status, Part number, Material code, Price of material etc.).

**Departments**: Configurable material departments indicating which company department the material is used in (E.g. CAD, CAE, Test, Simulation department etc.).

In the each of these sections desired additions and changes can be made (except for the main "Material Group", which can not be deselected).

The content and each content item in Basic, Additional Information and Departments sections are configurable in the [Data Maintenance](/total-materia-integrator/creator/data-maintenance.md) section [Parameters](/total-materia-integrator/creator/data-maintenance/parameters.md).

All mandatory items are marked with an asterisk (\*).
