# Release Materials

Releasing a material enables version control and ensures that changes are reflected in [Total Viewer](/total-materia-integrator/total-viewer.md) only after the material has been officially released. Clicking the <img src="https://276857119-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F46tXLAZ8TzcvqYg8Cavu%2Fuploads%2Fv6bdAjAnMAivPySzkMx8%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=4367376b-fc71-488c-9407-48ef121d15ed" alt="" data-size="line"> button located in the right corner of "Material Designation" within [Creator ](/total-materia-integrator/creator.md)section will open a new pop-up window displaying text box "Version" and "Description" and check box "Remove material from Viewer".

Text box "Version" allows insert of desired version of material (e.g. “version 4” or “version on 04/25/2025”) which will be displayed after release of material both in [Total Viewer](/total-materia-integrator/total-viewer.md) and [Creator ](/total-materia-integrator/creator.md)section.

Text box "Description" allows insert of desired description of material version or any other specifics. If the text box "Description" is specified, its content will be displayed as a tooltip in [Total Viewer](https://docs.totalmateria.com/total-materia-integrator/~/revisions/eWfKOpWxE4eZDetzMTyo/total-viewer) and in [Track Material Changes](https://docs.totalmateria.com/total-materia-integrator/~/revisions/DZrESNWZC5RohQG7UE2g/total-viewer/material-pages/track-material-changes) section when the material is released.

The "Remove material from Viewer" check box limits the visibility of the material to the [Creator](/total-materia-integrator/creator.md) section only, after it has been released. If this check box is not selected, the material will be visible in both the [Total Viewer](/total-materia-integrator/total-viewer.md) and [Creator](/total-materia-integrator/creator.md) section.

Clicking the button <img src="https://276857119-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F46tXLAZ8TzcvqYg8Cavu%2Fuploads%2FjFv3bGBO4nj0YYiPdJLV%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=248d102a-9333-4d04-adfe-bfa66aacf917" alt="" data-size="line"> will release the material with the specified release information. Upon release, a version is automatically assigned and displayed on the material page within the Creator section. If a version has already been populated, both the predefined and the automatically assigned versions will be shown one to the other.
