The Green Line Materials Page is designed to assist users in finding materials that meet specific regulatory requirements. It offers various search filters and options to narrow down search results based on material designation, regulations, compliance status, and more.
On the Green Line Materials Page there are search filters that help in narrowing down the number of results for materials by selecting a specific search criteria.
In order to find a compliant material for a certain regulation follow the next steps:
Step 1: Select what to search
The Search Filters section allows you to input criteria like Material Group (e.g., Polymers, Aluminum, Copper), Standard, and Producer to define your search.
If you know the designation of the material, you can also search directly by entering it. The compliance status of the material can then be assessed using the Compliance Assessor
Step 2: Select the Regulation(s)
From the Regulations drop-down, select one or more regulations (e.g., REACH, RoHS, WEEE) to find materials compliant with those standards.
Step 3: The results
Define the compliance status by using the Compliant/Not Hazardous checkbox to filter compliant materials. Results are shown in a table listing the materials that match your search criteria.
Step 4: Browse the results
The results presented in a table listing are all the materials fulfilling your search criteria, showing the first 2000 results.
To quickly evaluate the compliance status, open the material and view its compliance section which is available only for non-metal materials (See Material Compliance page for more details) or select and view materials in the Compliance Assessor for evaluating different regulations at once and viewing details of the statuses on the substance level (See Compliance Assessor for more details).
The Green Line Materials Page offers several advanced filters to narrow your search:
Material Designation: Directly search for a specific material by its designation.
Standard: Search for materials that comply with international standards such as ASME, DIN, or SAE.
Producer: Focus your search on materials from a specific producer (e.g., BASF, Celanese).
Type: Filter by specific categories such as Bulk Materials, Adhesives, Coatings, and more.
Material Group: Narrow your search by selecting broader material groups, such as Stainless Steel, Aluminum, or specific polymers like Polyamide 12 (PA12).
Step 1: Select what to search
In the Search filters the most common searching criteria is by the designation of the material. If there is no specific material in mind, or there is a need to define the search more closely to get better results, the material can be defined more closely by other search filters such as:
Material group which is most commonly done by selecting metallic or non-metallic materials, or as a multiple selection of different material groups.
Each material group can be further defined in more detail, whether there is a need to define a nonferrous alloy, such as Aluminum or Copper; or more closely defining a polymer family.
Explore the material group tree or use the built-in search filter and try selecting "Stainless Steel" or selecting a specific polymers "Polyamide 12 (PA12)".
Standard that gives an opportunity to closely search for a material that has been standardized by one or more of the 80+ standards originating from over 35 countries. (e.g. ASME, B.S., DIN, SAE…) covered by Total Materia.
Producer which is a good option to narrow down searches for finding proprietary materials from a specific producer. (e.g. BASF, Celanese…). By entering a producer’s name, users can generate a list that allows them to focus their search on products from a specific supplier.
Type that gives an opportunity to search for materials within a specific category (type) from the drop down list and choose from: Bulk materials, Additive Manufacturing, Adhesives, Coatings or Lubricants.
Step 2: Select the compliance regulations
Selecting the appropriate regulations is essential when searching for compliant materials. Using the Regulation drop-down menu, you can choose one or more regulations to filter materials accordingly. This ensures that the materials comply with global standards, such as REACH, RoHS, WEEE, FDA or others. Multiple regulations can be selected at once, helping you efficiently find materials that meet all necessary compliance requirements.
If more than one regulation is selected, keep in mind that the operator between them is ”OR”. In other words, the materials presented in results will be compliant to at least one of the selected regulations.
Step 3: The results
Below the Regulation drop-down menu, there is a checkbox labeled "Compliant/Not hazardous", which allows you to predefine the compliance status of materials before running the search.
When left unchecked, the results will include all the materials that can be evaluated against a specific regulation, not only the compliant ones.
The compliance status of materials comes from two main sources. For non-metallic materials, such as polymers, the status is available on the compliance page and is typically based on statements provided by producers. For metallic materials, however, the compliance status is not directly shown on the compliance page. Instead, it is assessed using an algorithm based on chemical composition, similar to the Compliance Assessor tool (See Compliance Assessor for more details). This dual approach ensures that compliance information is accurately tailored to the type of material being evaluated.
Step 4: Browse the results The results are displayed in a table, listing all materials that match your search criteria.
To quickly evaluate the compliance status, simply click on a material to view its compliance page (available for non-metal materials). If you need to assess multiple materials, whether they are metallic or non-metallic, for a specific regulation, you can add them to the Green Line – Compliance Assessor for detailed evaluation across multiple regulations.
Selected materials can also be added to the Material List Builder from which they can be added to other Green Line modules.
